Women call for 'hardline targeting' on underage problems
The womens association says it welcomes the recent RGP operation to control underage consumption of tobacco and alcohol.
Families around the Rock should be more aware that children are being served alcohol during the evening in and around popular teenage hang outs and the implications this has on not only their health, but on their vulnerability and safeguarding issues.
The GWA calls for continued awareness in this area and hardline targeting by both the RGP, licensing department and the courts on those establishments who supply tobacco and alcohol to underage children.
Pollution from local and outside sources
On another issue, the GWA says that families rely on government policies to protect them from pollution and environmental impact and the GWA encourage a no-nonsense hardline approach to traffic and environmental pollution both from local and outside sources. Zero tolerance needs to be implemented on vehicles that are not fit for the road and traffic needs to be reduced. Alternative power and green areas and buildings should be encouraged with incentives, with developments by the government leading the way. A town plan to restrict overdevelopment and control projects sensibly is long overdue.
The refinery should be tackled at European level in a hard line approach with no tolerance to environmental controls not being adhered to. The recent flaunting of European law with flaring from the refinery in the Bay cannot be tolerated and the GWA praise the government in their decisive action by taking it to European level as a matter of urgency.
